How many boxes it actually takes to see every character, and why the Hello Kitty range is the only one where finishing a set is realistic.
The character pools
Series 1 and Series 3 both draw from a pool of 70-plus characters, the Hello Kitty range from around 30, and the Series 2 pack states no pool size at all — the packaging says “a wide variety” and stops there. The size of the pool, not the price of the box, decides how long a collection takes.

How many boxes to see them all
Blind packs are draws with replacement, so the last few characters are the expensive ones. The figure below is the coupon-collector expectation: the average number of boxes to have seen every character at least once, assuming each is equally likely. Real distributions are rarely that even, so treat it as a floor rather than a promise.
Trading with other collectors is what makes those numbers survivable, and it is why every pack in the range includes a fold-out guide printing the full line-up: you cannot trade a duplicate you cannot name.
Everything clips to everything
The connector geometry did not change between Series 1, Series 3 and the Hello Kitty range. Any cap goes on any keychain and any Deluxe Keychain cube, so a collection started in one range is never stranded. Nothing on the packaging says this, and it is the single most useful thing to know before choosing where to start.
Carriers versus packs
4 of the 11 boxes here are carriers rather than plain packs: the Deluxe Keychain cubes state their contents on the packaging instead of sealing them, the keyboard Mega Pack is a display case that happens to arrive loaded, and the Clickee Controller is a gamepad shell that ships with five blind Series 1 caps already aboard. If the aim is somewhere to put caps that already exist, those are the ones to look at; if the aim is more characters, the blind multipacks are the cheaper route.
What the review numbers can and cannot tell you
Across the catalogue, 10 of 11 listings carry reviews at all, and they hold 982 between them for a weighted average of 4.48 out of 5. One listing — the Clickee Controller — accounts for 350 of those on its own. Most of the rest are thin samples, and the two lowest-rated boxes are the two largest Series 3 blind packs, which is a comment on the format rather than on the caps inside.
