Four questions decide which box is the right one. None of them is about price, because on this range the price is rarely the thing that is scarce.

1. Is this a first Clickee or the twentieth?

A first purchase wants to answer one question: does the click feel as good as it looks. Two caps do that for the cost of a coffee. A twentieth purchase has the opposite problem — caps everywhere and nowhere to put them — and wants a cube, the keyboard case or the Clickee Controller rather than more loose caps.

2. Which sound?

Series 1 caps are square and click dry and sharp, close to a real mechanical switch. Series 3 rounded the shell and softened it to a pop. That is the only meaningful difference between the two waves, and it is worth deciding before buying rather than after: in a quiet room they are not the same toy.

3. How badly do you want a complete set?

Series 1 and Series 3 both draw from a pool of 70 characters; the Hello Kitty range draws from around 30; the Series 2 pack states no pool size at all. That single number changes the whole arithmetic of collecting, and the Collector’s Guide works the figures through. If “complete” is the goal, the licensed range is the only one where it is a realistic target.

4. Does it need to be buyable today?

This is the awkward one. 8 of the 11 boxes have a live buy box right now, another 2 are carried only by third-party sellers, and the remaining 1 show as unavailable with no seller behind them at all. 10 of the 11 carry a price on this site — a “from” figure means the lowest third-party offer rather than a buy box of the listing’s own.
